Music from the Civil War period interspersed with letters to and from CSA soldiers at the battlefront and oral histories from former slaves.

Materials from the Civil War period were collected by Robert Maxham, musician and musicologist and his wife Judy Maxham (Research Dept., Amherst County Public Library) and Holly Mills (Director, Amherst County Museum.)

Sweet Briar College personnel participating in the project include folk singer and Sweet Briar Grounds Superintendent Donna Meeks and actor and student CJ Campbell. Robert Maxham will play violin music from the period, with Ms. Meeks on vocals and guitar. Others performers include residents of the Amherst and Lynchburg areas: Wesley Butler, Martha Cox, Wendy Edwards, Justin Humphreys, Jordan Mays Roland, Payton Maddox, and Royal Shiree.
