April 28th, 9 am to Noon (breakfast begins at 8:30)
This half day workshop will address the following questions that many realtors have about historic preservation and historic buildings:
What is the National Register of Historic Places and what is the the Virginia Landmarks Register? What does it mean to have a property listed on the registers? What is a historic district? What are the different types of historic districts and what incentives or restrictions might apply to different levels of designation?. What is an architectural review board and what does the board do and not do? What are historic rehabilitation tax credits? What are historic easements? How do appraisers look at historic properties? How can you market historic properties? Where can you go for information about historic preservation and historic properties on the Web? What is a basic architectural vocabulary for describing architectural styles and architectural features commonly found in the Lynchburg area?
The conference is being held in the 1948 Theater in the Fitness and Athletics Center on the Sweet Briar Campus. Parking is available in parking lots in front of the building. A campus map is available on-line. The FAC is 32.
